Hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating affects almost 2% of the population but unfortunately it remains largely under diagnosed and under treated due to the lack of awareness of this condition.

Hyperhidrosis typically starts during adolescence and with no definitive cause it simply becomes a way of life.

For those with axillary (armpit) hyperhidrosis, fashions trends of brighter coloured clothes is simply not an option. Instead sufferers tend to have a large wardrobe selection of black tops to disguise sweat marks. For those with palmar (hands) hyperhidrosis, the shaking of the hands in the workplace becomes an intricate, well rehearsed routine of continual hand wiping manoeuvres to avoid the dreaded wet handshake. While for others it simply means carrying an endless supply of tissues to mop the face and brow.

As well as the physical impact, hyperhidrosis has a large psychological impact on one’s life, including poor self esteem, discomfort in social situations, stained clothes and limited social contact due to being self conscious about the symptoms.

Those affected need suffer no more. Botulinum Toxin is now the gold standard treatment of hyperhidrosis. The popularity of this treatment comes from the fact that it is extremely safe, but most importantly because it is so effective, dramatically changing the daily life of sufferers, but a few words of warning...

  • BARGAIN BOTOX®:Unfortunately, Botox® treatment from one clinic may not be exactly what you get at another. Even though Botulinum Toxin A (Botox®, Azzalure, Bocouture etc) is supplied to all medical clinics in a manufacturer’s vial containing a specific amount of vacuum dried neurotoxin (powder form), in order to be able to inject it the healthcare professional must add a saline solution to get it in a liquid form- a process known as reconstitution. So while each healthcare professional gets the same product from the manufacturer, when it is reconstituted for injection, strength and efficacy will differ depending on the amount of saline added.

    With this in mind, you should be cautious when you see Botox® treatment at bargain prices. Everyone pays the same for the Botulinum Toxin – so how can prices to the patients vary so much? Botox® at a ‘bargain’ price almost always mean it has been diluted far beyond what’s recommended (or effective; even if it is effective initially the treatment will wear off quickly). Don’t assume that you are getting a ‘good dose’ because a large amount is being injected. What you thought was a bargain price for Botox® may really be an extortionate price for mostly saline solution!
