Treatment Info

What is Skin Hydration Therapy?

Skin Hydration Therapy is a treatment specifically designed to improve skin hydration and elasticity, resulting in a more refreshed appearance and a natural, healthy glow in the face, neck, décolletage, and hands.

Choosing which product to use

At The Hadleigh Clinic we only use the most popular brands of skin revitalisation products, which have been extensively studied in clinical trials.

Restylane Vital™ and Restylane Vital Light™ (from Q-med)

Both products contain Hyaluronic acid to revitalise the skin by providing deep dermal hydration. The hyaluronic acid attracts and releases water when needed, so balancing the nutritional environment of the skin which in turn promotes the production of healthy skin. As a result, skin vitality and lustre is restored and skin looks hydrated and toned. Restylane Vital is specifically formulated for patients with more moderate and severe photoageing or for those with thicker aged skin, and Restylane Vital Light is more suitable for younger skin with mild to moderate photoageing or for patients with thinner skin.

Juvederm® Hydrate (from Allergan)

Juvederm Hydrate is the latest addition to the Juvederm family and belongs to a new category of skin hydration treatments containing smooth hyaluronic acid (HA) and mannitol. By replenishing HA lost through ageing, the skin is rehydrated resulting in improved elasticity and tone. Among other things, HA contributes to the overall smooth appearance of the skin and mannitol is known as an anti-oxidant and acts against free radicals.

What is Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic Acid is a naturally occurring substance found in all cells of the body (approximately 56% of our skin is made up of HA) that helps hydrate and add volume to our skin. Naturally occurring HA is broken down by the body every day so it is constantly being replaced. As we age, this replacement mechanism diminishes, so the moisturising and plumping effects of HA decrease. This results in skin that looks dull and wrinkled and feels dry and rough to the touch. This especially affects the face, neck, décolletage and hands. Hyaluronic acid is used for aesthetic treatments and has also been used by doctors for injection into arthritic joints to aid movement, as well as eye surgery.

What is the treatment like?

Prior to the treatment the skin will be cleaned and an anaesthetic cream applied to ensure the most comfortable treatment possible. The treatment is administered though very tiny injections about 1-2 cm apart. Once injected the HA gel flows smoothly and gentle massage of the treated area distributes the product evenly into the skin. The actual treatment takes approximately 15-30 minutes. After the treatment you may experience redness, slight swelling and/or bruising of the treated area. These anticipated side effects resolve quite quickly and can generally be covered up with make up so that you can resume your normal activities after the treatment.

How many treatments are needed?

An initial, intense treatment usually comprises of 3 treatment sessions, three to four weeks apart followed by a maintenance treatment every 4-6 months

What are the results like and how long will they last?

Many patients notice that once they have had the treatment, friends, family and colleagues comment that they look different but are unable to comment on what has changed. Skin Hydration Therapy is a subtle enhancement rather that a dramatic change. Recent studies have shown that 95% of patients are delighted with their treatment and 85% would recommend it to a friend. The results are typically long lasting (3-6months) but to achieve optimal results maintenance treatments should be carried out. Factors which affect the longevity of results include: your age, your physiology, your lifestyle (smoking and sun exposure) and the amount injected.
